About The Grove

Our History

On October 28, 1959, a group of believers met at 1061 Hart Ave.  This was the home of Rev. & Mrs. Johnny Leo Kemp.  The purpose of this meeting was to organize a church.  The meeting began by singing, “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross.”  Bro. Thomas Jackson read Psalms 36.  The church was given the name Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church by Sister Alberta Gibson.

Mission

The mission of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church is to serve God through worship, evangelism, discipleship, fellowship and missions, bringing people into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and equipping them for ministry that edifies the body of Christ and the Community.

Our Beliefs

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. (II Timothy 3:16-17, II Corinthians 13-14)

We believe in salvation through the redeeming blood of Christ by repentance to God. We are justified by our faith in Jesus Christ and our confession of His Lordship in our lives. (Hebrews 9:22, Romans 10:9-10, 13, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23)

We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides divine healing for us in answer to believing prayer. (I Peter 2:24, Psalm 103:2-3, James 5:15)

We believe in water baptism and the observance of the Lord’s Supper. (John 22:19-20, Mark 14:22-24, Matthew 26:26-28, Matthew 28:19-20)
